EDUCATION

HEY: Hope’s Educated Youth (Afterschool Tutorial Program)
Hope Community Outreach and Development (HCOD) hosts an
afterschool tutorial program from neighborhood partnerships named
HEY for students in grades 1 through 6.  By means of neighborhood
partnerships, students attend Carstens Elementary, Remus Robinson
K-12, Detroit Enterprise Academy, Detroit
Merit Academy and Ronald Brown Academy.
During the bi-weekly sessions, students receive
reading/language arts skill building,
mathematical skill building, homework and
school project help, computer lab, and
enrichment activities.  The enrichment activities
include monthly lessons in the core interest
areas of health, safety, and career
development.  Our students are also introduced
to off-campus field trips to enhance his/her learning experience.

Kids Summer Adventure

HCOD hosts and facilitates its annual 8-week summer program where community youth participate in numerous summer adventures in education and enrichment.  Adventures can include lessons and activities in academics (math and reading), computers, character building, teamwork, nature, arts, crafts, healthy lifestyles, safe living, conflict resolution, extreme games, exercise, etc.  Students experience quality relationship time with volunteers
and other collaborating organizations (i.e. Spring Hill Camp, Wildwood
Ranch, Warren Karate, Woodside Bible, CEF, Hope Community
Church, etc).  Off-campus field trips are also provided for the students
in order to increase his/her learning experience.

Community Mentoring Program
Neighborhood youth and young adults (ages 15 -29) are mentored weekly in areas of character building, values, conflict resolution, goal setting, employment readiness, job training, etc.  Participants share a meal together while experiencing both large and small group time.  The goal of the time together is to empower and equip the individuals for personal development and employment.
